I consider myself a pretty average guy. I’ve got a job, a family and a mortgage. I don’t claim any special expertise for changing the world.
As a matter of fact, there was a time, not so long ago, where that wasn’t even a possibility for me. There was a period when a huge portion of my time, attention and energy was being consumed by pointless and self-destructive activities.
No, I wasn’t a drug addict. I was a political junkie.
Politics consumed me. I listened to talk radio during my commute. I read political news late into the night. I was “that” guy on Facebook, always posting political rants. I talked about politics with anybody that would indulge me.
Unfortunately, if you learn too much about politics you’ll realize the deck is stacked against you. After a few years of this routine I found that I was constantly angry, I was afraid for my children’s future and I felt utterly helpless to do anything to fix the problems that I perceived on the horizon.
Anger. Fear. Helplessness.
These are not uplifting or empowering emotions. What they are is consuming, destructive and a colossal waste of time, energy and potential. Needless to say I was not exactly on a path to having any kind of beneficial or meaningful influence on my family, let alone on the world.
Then one day I decided I’d had enough. I couldn’t stand feeling helpless anymore. I decided that instead of trying to change everyone and everything else I was going to focus on improving the one thing I had complete control over: myself.
For the next couple of years I inhaled books on everything from personal development to international economic policy. The change in my life and disposition was rapid and enormous! My anger was replaced by knowledge and my fear by understanding. Most important, my feelings of helplessness were replaced by feelings of empowerment.
The knowledge I’ve gained since 2013 has been critical to building a personal foundation of confidence, strength and a determination to act rather than to be acted upon. Now I’m beginning to look out at the world to figure out what I’m going to do to make it a better place for my children.
There’s only one problem…I’m just one guy. I realize that no matter how much I learn and work there is only so much one person can do. However, I also realize that there must be thousands of like-minded individuals out there. People who may be in the same boat I found myself in a couple of years ago. Wanting to make a meaningful impact with their lives but unsure of how to go about it. I also know there are tons of people out there who are already hugely influential that could provide examples.
Lever Builders was born out of my desire to find and connect with those people; to create a community where members can share their experiences, successes and failures. A place where people can find the motivation and courage to make the necessary changes in their lives that will enable them to influence others in powerful ways.
Are you one of those like-minded people? Do you believe in your potential for good but don’t know how to harness it? Are you someone who is already doing great things and would love to help others do the same? If you answered yes to either of those questions I hope you’ll become a member of this community and help to make it a thriving and robust group. Together we can make a huge collective impact and turn this crazy world on its head.
This is going to be fun!
